Stationary Wave Riding
From August 20th-21st, 2011 the first European Championships in Stationary Wave Riding took place at Munich Airport. On the permanent wave (9m breadth, 1,50m height) the professional riders showed their entire repertoire. Nearly the whole german surfsport scene took part in the competition, as there were Sebastian Steudtner, Marlon Lipke and Quirin Rohleder. Winner and first European Champion became Gerry Schlegel (31) who was supposed to be the favourite before and convinced the jury. In total, more than 20.000 spectators visited the stationary wave, which opened the doors for all interested people after the European Championships until August 28th. Also Chiemsee supported the stationary wave in Munich and was happy about the great enthusiasm.
